#3 - AUGUST 27, 2023
Dear Primary School Parents!
It's been wonderful talking and spending time with our students and watching them arrive and leave school with big smiles on their faces. We will have a busy week ahead of us. This week we will begin to move from routines and jumping into academics. We want to thank you for helping our day begin with active children and bright smiles. We know it's not easy for our little ones to begin their school day at 7:00, but they are happy and ready to begin, mainly because of your support.
Thank you!
Paula, Vane and Juli
Primary School Open House We are thrilled to invite you to our upcoming Open House event, where you'll have the opportunity to experience firsthand the vibrant learning environment your children are a part of. Join us for a day of exploration, engagement, and excitement! NO SCHOOL for students. Date: Thursday, August 31st
We are pleased to announce an additional classroom session to accommodate potential scheduling conflicts across different grade levels or divisions. This supplementary session will take place from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM in your child's classroom. Should you be unable to participate in the cafetorium session, we will forward you the video link of the presentation in next week's CCN. Please note that this day is not intended for students to attend regular classes. However, we are mindful that arranging for childcare might be challenging for some parents. In such cases, we want to assure you that we will provide supervision at the school starting from 7:30 AM to 11:00 AM. The meeting point is the PS Office. |

A note from Dr. Habegger regarding Open House: Dear CNG Families: On behalf of our Leadership Team and our teachers and support staff, we look forward to welcoming you to our Open House events next week. You will receive more information from each building level regarding your specific Open House schedules. As CNG parents, you are very important partners in supporting student success, so we hope to see everyone there to build strong relationships with our teachers and staff for the benefit of your children. As part of the Open House schedule, CNG holds elections at each grade level in order for parents to elect their official Parent Council Representatives. For those of you who would like to be the representative for your child's grade as part of this important advisory group, we invite you to send your name to Fabiola Arensburg, Assistant to the Director, at farensburg@cng.edu in advance of your respective Open House event. If you do not have the chance to send us your name prior to the meeting, you may also request to be placed on the ballot at the Open House. If you would like to know more about this Council, please open the following link: CNG Governance Structure. Our CNG Team invites you to actively participate in and support your children’s educational experience at CNG by serving on the Parent Council, voting to elect your representatives, and/or engaging in the broad range of opportunities available to advance your children's learning and growth. We look forward to seeing you at Open House as well as at the multiple events held throughout the year that help us build a successful school/home partnership. Sincerely, Dr. Eric H. Habegger CNG Director |

PS Parent Council Representative Info: Dear PS Parents, If you are running for the Parent Council Representative position, we kindly request that you prepare a 2-minute speech to present to parents during our upcoming Open House event. Your speech is an invaluable opportunity to introduce yourself, express your aspirations, and share your vision for the Parent Council. This platform will allow you to connect with the parent community and highlight how you intend to contribute positively to our school's growth and development. We appreciate your dedication and involvement in shaping the future of our school. Thank you for your active participation. Warm regards, Paula, Vane and Juli |

Awards Assembly We had our first PS Assembly this week. We talked about the Four Core Values and how students are expected to show them in the common areas (cafeteria, hallway, bus, playground). They had a great time and they all promised they would try their best to keep the school a safe place. Thank you for supporting us at home by reinforcing them with your children.

Welcome to your Primary Library. We are excited to start a new chapter with you! Please take a moment to read this very important letter regarding sensitive materials and decide if you wish to opt out.
Dear Primary School Families,
We hope this message finds you well. We feel it is important to share some information regarding the diverse range of books available in our PS Library which reflect different cultures, backgrounds and points of view. Our goal has always been to create a welcoming environment for all members of our community to learn about the world around them through literature.
In our efforts to promote understanding, empathy, and a broader world view, a collection of books that address themes of diversity, inclusion, and social justice, have been curated. These books are meant to encourage open dialogue, critical thinking, and personal growth. Nevertheless, we understand that certain topics and themes may be sensitive for some families.
We wish to emphasize that we respect your values and preferences as parents/guardians and we want to ensure that your child’s reading experience aligns with your family’s beliefs. If you prefer that your child does not have access to books on certain sensitive topics we completely understand. Please feel free to let us know if you would like to restrict your child’s access to such materials.
To do so, simply fill out the Google Form. We will then ensure that your child’s library account is appropriately marked, and he/she will not be able to check out books from the collection we have labeled “Books As Tools”.
We are committed to fostering a partnership with parents/guardians to create a supportive learning environment for all our students. If you have further questions, concerns, or suggestions regarding our library collection, please don’t hesitate to contact us. Your input is valuable to us, and we appreciate your involvement in your child’s education.
Thank you for your continued support.
Sincerely,
Paula Pérez

More Connecting Rituals to Help Children Adapt to School: Story Hand
The Story Hand is another connecting ritual we can use these first weeks of school to help children feel connected to their caregivers. It is a gentle hand massage accompanied by a personalized social story that helps the child deal with stress or anxiety. The story you tell will reflect a specific, personalized experience or concern for the child. For example, if your child is telling you he/she does not want to go to school the next day you can do this ritual saying the following words: ¨Let me tell you a story in your hand. This little finger woke up this morning, this little finger ate pancake breakfast, this little finger went to school, this little finger played with his/her friends, this little finger didn't want to go to school because he missed Mommy/Daddy. Fold the thumb between the fingers and wrap fingers around it as you say ¨all these little fingers are going to help him. You are safe. You can handle this!¨. Make sure the thumb represents what is stressing them and the rest of the fingers are neutral things the child has done. By giving the child a massage in each finger and then squeezing the hand gently when closed we are giving the child the message he/she is capable of handling this situation. For more information see the picture.
