Schedule

PLACEMENT

This is the time when families begin to wonder about classroom placement for next year.  In this letter, you will find our Student Classroom Assignment Protocol.  We truly believe this protocol is a necessary and vital characteristic for creating a school environment that is equitable and thriving.  Our configuration model is focused on equity. Whereas in the past, we tried to honor parent classroom assignment requests, this practice resulted in unbalanced classrooms in some grade levels, and created tension within our community.

Primary School’s assignment policy is a class configuration model based on the following factors, and formed through collaboration with general education classroom teachers, co-teachers, specialist teachers, counselors, and instructional coaches:

Student learning level/academic strengths

Social and emotional needs

Student behavior

Gender

Demographic information

Native English Speakers

Ratio of International/Colombian students

Relationships

This policy is based on the belief that all of our teachers have gifts and talents to meet the needs of every child at CNG.  Your child’s current teacher knows your student’s instructional strengths, social and emotional needs, which students they work best with, or students from whom they need to be separated.  As a school, we do not make these decisions lightly, and all of our decisions are based on this belief.  Ultimately, we believe our children are adaptable, will thrive and develop resiliency in any environment, and will make friends wherever they are placed.

Again, these decisions will be based on ensuring a balanced and equitable distribution of students across the grade levels.  We will not be honoring any individual placement requests at this time, so please do not reach out to staff with those placement requests.  We also want to emphasize to you that in this process, it is the administration who are making the final decisions.  Thank you for your understanding and trust.  We truly appreciate your support.

Library

Dear PS Families,

We wanted to share some exciting news with you regarding the outcome of our recent Used Book Fair. Thanks to your generous contributions, we've collected enough money to invite three very special guests to speak to the children about the power of books and the importance of reading.

We are thrilled to announce that for our K4 students, we will be welcoming Paula Ríos, whose stories promise to ignite the imagination of our youngest learners. For K5 and 1st grade, we have the honor of hosting José Alberto Gutierrez, affectionately known as El Señor de los Libros .

His journey from humble beginnings to creating a community library is a testimony to the transformative power of literacy. Lastly, for 2nd grade, we are excited to welcome Antonia Sanín, who will captivate our students with tales of her beloved character Detective Equis and his thrilling adventures.

Their dedication to promoting literacy is truly inspiring, and we believe their visits will deeply resonate with the children. We hope that these events will educate, inspire and reinforce the importance of our efforts in supporting literacy initiatives.

At the end of the Summer Reading Recommendations, you may find the books by these authors should you wish to continue this journey at home and have the books signed by the authors on the following dates:

June 6th

K5 & 1st Grade

José Alberto Gutiérrez

June 11

June 12

2nd Grade

Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions regarding these visits.

Warm regards,

Mari Ro and Margie
