CNG Primary School CCN: #26 - MARCH 1, 2024

#26 - MARCH 1, 2024

Dear Primary School Families,

Our students have had an amazing week of learning! Don't forget our CNG´s Fun Fest Bazaar coming up this Saturday, March 2nd. Join us for a great time with the whole family! Also, to continue our partnership, join us for Parent University on Tuesday. It's a great opportunity to learn and grow together.

Looking forward to seeing you there!

Happy Weekend,

Paula

Important Info

Social Skills in Primary School

In Primary School apart from teaching very important skills like reading, writing, math, science, we invest a lot of time in teaching our kids social skills. We constantly have many learning opportunities which our counselors, teachers and staff work with, so we can show kids how to be assertive, respectful, include everyone, etc. We want to kindly ask you to please let us know if you need us to help you or your child with something that he or she tells you about at home. Calling other kids´ parents makes the problem bigger and usually much more difficult to solve. Please make sure to discuss these “issues” with school staff and not in social events or with other parents. Please remember that young children's mistakes related to social skills or discipline are confidential and need to be discussed with school staff only on a need to know basis and not with other families. Just as we're asking our kids to practice the value of integrity at school, this is a perfect way to model it at home.

PTA Fun Fest Bazaar

Don't miss out on the PTA Fun Fest Bazaar on March 2 from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm at CNG. Experience a day filled with excitement, including inflatable water slides, thrilling obstacles, and bouncy houses. Treat yourself to a delicious selection of savory and sweet treats at our food court, enjoy live music, and browse the Kermesse fair for fantastic deals from local vendors. Join us in celebrating and contributing to our community-building efforts! Click here for ticket details.

Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT) for all 2nd graders

"Assessments are a necessary tool by which we can identify students’ strengths and weaknesses to better address their educational needs."

At CNG we administer the Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT) to all 2nd graders to provide teachers and families insights into students’ academic achievement and abilities for differentiating instruction to enhance all students’ learning potential. The CogAT universal screening is three 10 minute subtests which usually takes around 45 minutes total to administer online in a group. Students will take this test in their classrooms on March 5th from 7:15 - 8:15 a. m with proctors available to help with technical issues and we ask that your students please bring their corded headphones. The results from this screening will be available and those who qualify for follow-up testing will receive additional information throughout the month of March. Please feel free to reach out with any questions as we approach the date.

Best regards,

Karen Diaz

What Parents Should Know About CogAt

Parent University: “It Starts with Me”

By: Vicky Chehebar (CNG Parent)

In the hustle of daily life, it's easy to overlook the opportunities for personal growth and healing that parenting presents. We'll explore the transformations inherent in the role of parenthood, guiding you to embrace the challenges, foster your own growth, and empower your child to confidently forge their unique path.

๐Ÿ—“๏ธ Date: Tuesday, March 5th
๐Ÿ•’ Time: 7:30-8:30am
๐Ÿ“ Location: MPR (Elementary Building)

NOTE: Parent Universities are hybrid (Zoom and in person). This is the Zoom LINK. (Meeting ID: 929 9349 4742  and Access Code: : 347875).

*Please note there is NO available parking on campus, so please plan accordingly to make the necessary arrangements in order to arrive to school.

Lollipops or Candy with Sticks

We kindly ask for your cooperation in refraining from sending lollipops or any candy with sticks to school with your children. This precautionary measure is essential to prevent potential accidents and ensure the well-being of all students. Thank you for your understanding and support in promoting a safe school environment.

Schedule

Transportation Changes – Bus and Gate Passes

We would like to remind our ES/PS community of our policy of no transportation changes after 11:00 AM.  This policy exists to ensure child safety.  Calls that come in with transportation changes later in the day can result in confusion for the child and the teacher and potentially lead to students accidentally going home the wrong way.  The only exception to this policy will be last minute doctor appointments or plan changes that result in a child going home as usual (such as a cancelled playdate or activity).

Sick Students

We understand that you want the best for your children's education, and we share that commitment. However, it is crucial that we all play a role in maintaining a safe learning environment, especially when it comes to the health of our students. By keeping sick students at home, you not only protect their health but also prevent the potential spread of illnesses to other students and school staff. We are committed to providing a safe and healthy learning environment for everyone, and your cooperation in this matter is greatly appreciated. Please take a look at CNG´s guidelines for keeping sick children home from school:

Dear PS Families,

Let’s get ready to celebrate Earth Day!

If you wish to give those books you are no longer reading a new home,  please send them to the PS library between March 10th - April 19th. You may send your donations with your child on his/her library day assigned. We will be happy to receive children’s books and magazines for audiences between K-3rd grade. Additionally, if you wish to donate books and magazines for grown-ups, we will receive them and set them aside for our teachers.

These donations will be sold at our annual Used Book Sale which will be open for our students during their library classes. The fair will be held between April 22 - 26 and the books will not exceed the price of $10,000 pesos each.

All proceeds from the Used Book Sale will go towards a special presentation for our Primary students like we have done in the past two years when Luis Soriano, the Biblioburro, and Amalia Low performed for them.

Let's come together to celebrate Earth Day by sharing the gift of reading and fostering a sustainable future. Your generosity and participation will make a significant difference!

For any questions or additional information, please contact Mari Ro or Margie at the PS Library 601 2123511 ext. 177

Thank you for being a part of our Earth Day celebration!
