OUR CO-TEACHING PROGRAM

OVERVIEW

In a co-taught classroom, a General Education teacher and a Learning Center teacher work collaboratively throughout the year. The General Education and Learning Center teachers partner up to develop lessons, create assessments, share teaching responsibilities and deliver content to all students. The teachers keep in mind the needs of students with learning differences and differentiate instruction to make the learning process effective and engaging for students with learning differences, which positively impacts the learning of all students.

OUR TEACHERS

Are qualified special education professionals who have experience in differentiated instruction and in supporting students with diverse learning pro les
Use continuous formal and informal assessment data to design meaningful Individualized Educational Plans (IEP) and targeted evidenced based remedial interventions
Ensure that students have the accommodations outlined in their IEP as well as the right instructional supports to succeed in the general ed classroom
Participate in the planning, lesson delivery, and assessment of students in that class in collaboration with the general education teacher
Provide students with immediate opportunities for re-teaching and quality feedback in class or enrichment opportunities
Provide students with individual and small group academic supports
Help develop learning environments that promote executive functions and self reflection

OUR CO-TEACHING PROGRAM DEVELOPS:

Students with stronger foundational learning skills to access the curriculum
Students who are self-aware of their learning pro le and can advocate for themselves and for each other
Students who are con dent, experience success, and have a strong sense of belonging
Collaborative and supportive learning environments
Enhanced teaching practices that stem from the collaboration between General Ed and Special Ed teachers
