EVEN A T-SHIRT CAN BE EDUCATIONAL:
Colombia is the country with the greatest biodiversity of birds, butterflies and orchids and the second country with the greatest biodiversity in the world (after Brazil).
We want our community to learn about 6 different species every single year, pick a favorite species for the CWW shirt and wear that shirt with pride.
The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) has divided the species in the world into NINE categories. We are going to focus on six colombian species that are vulnerable, endangered or critically endangered.
In the 2023-2024 school year, students voted to support the critically endangered Magdalena River Turtle (Podocnemis lewyana) and sixth graders even had the chance to release these turtles into the wild with the support of the fabulous Chavita, one of the most important protectors of this critically endangered species.
344 students voted
In the words of the sixth grader who created the 2023-2024 slogan:
ANIMALS ARE VOICELESS, BE THEIR VOICE!
A new twist happened at the end of 2025-2026, where our sixth grade design classes were in charge of the entire t-shirt process. They started by selecting 6 species under the parameters of being endemic, less known and under threat, never used on one of the shirts previously and interesting for our student population. Then they designed a survey for the different school levels to select their species where 569 students voted. They all made t-shirt designs of the selected species with the support of Colombia Se Pega. The result is a t- shirt designed with the input of five different groups in the two classes.
