The crew for Honk! Jr. played an integral role in bringing the story to life by transforming it into a uniquely Icelandic experience. Throughout the musical season, the crew has used the Design Thinking process to Define, Prototype, and Test a variety of solutions to meet the needs of the show. Starting from the context of the breathtaking landscapes and cultural traditions of Iceland, and combining that with the journey of the show, the crew designed and built the entire set and props using mostly recycled materials, demonstrating both creativity and environmental consciousness. From the boxes that they collected for structures, to the plastic water bottles of the waterfall, they consistently used the lens of sustainability.
The crew also created custom animations and videos that added depth and visual storytelling to the production, immersing the audience further into this Nordic-inspired world. Beyond their technical contributions, the crew incorporated Icelandic folklore into the production by portraying "hidden people," mythical creatures believed to live unseen by humans. These hidden people added an enchanting layer to the story, blending tradition with innovation. Crew is also responsible for the lighting, sound, setting changes, and prop movement that you see throughout the play. Though they’ve had adult support, the on-stage leadership, coordination, and problem-solving is entirely student talent. Their dedication and imagination brought a distinctive charm to Honk! Jr., making it an unforgettable experience for all involved.
