Examine your research question. Produce additional questions that will guide your research. Here are your rules for working:

 

  • Brainstorm as many questions as you can related to your topic

  • Do not stop to discuss, judge or answer the questions

  • Write down questions exactly as stated

  • Change any statement to questions

Unit #1 Growth Mindset Research Pre-Assessment

Goal: Demonstrate that you are able to identify growth mindset and grit in inspiring figures through research.

Situation: You will choose one of the following people: Simone Biles, Gandhi, Frederick Douglass, Ram Nath Kovind, or Mark Inglis. Develop a research question that you would use to learn about how they became successful. Jot down keywords/search terms you will use while you research. In 10-20 minutes do some reading and note taking to answer your question. Write a one paragraph explanation of how this person is an example of the use of grit and growth mindset.

Product: In your Notebook I need to be able to see:

  • A question

  • Keywords/ search terms

  • Note taking during research

  • One paragraph explanation

  • Conduct short research projects to answer a self-generated question, drawing on several sources and generating additional related, focused questions that allow for multiple avenues of exploration.

  • Gather relevant information from multiple sources, using search terms effectively; assess the credibility and accuracy of each source; and quote or paraphrase the data and conclusions of others while avoiding plagiarism and following a standard format for citation.

  • Draw evidence from literary or informational texts to support analysis, reflection, and research.
