SH_A. EMERGENCY REACTION PLAN

A. EMERGENCY REACTION PLAN

CNG adopts and implements the proper measures to provide for the safety of CNG’s community of students and staff in emergencies. The Emergency Reaction Plan is reviewed on a regular basis by the School Administration.

Emergency instructions and a map locating fire extinguishers and evacuation routes is located in all classrooms.

Emergency drills will be held regularly during the school year. Some will be announced drills, some will be unannounced drills.

All staff should familiarize themselves with the location of extinguishers, emergency exits, and procedures. Teachers should go over the procedures with their students during the first week of school and anytime a new student enters the class. Click here for more information.

The School Director is authorized to announce the closing of school if actual or potential hazards threaten the safety of staff and students. The decision to close the school in case of emergency will be made by the School Director. If as a result the number of school days falls below 180 days, the School Director and the Board of Directors shall decide if, how, and when the missing school days will be made up.

SH_B. HEALTH ZONE

B. HEALTH ZONE

Health Zone services are for the students and staff. The Health Zone must be reserved for these situations:

  • Health Zone for ill or injured students or staff members.
  • A waiting area and emergency station for the severely ill or injured student or staff members.
  • An area for students to take their prescription medication.

Students should not possess or use prescription or nonprescription drugs unless a physician specifically directs the student’s parent/guardian and school that the medication needs to be taken at school. All medication must be kept in the Health Zone with the medical prescription. Students need to go to the nurse when it is time to take their medication.

Keeping medicines inside the classroom is not permitted. Teaching staff may not distribute medicine to students, as per Colombian law. Teachers must analyze the situation and the student’s medical state before sending the student to the nurse; a teacher’s pass that authorizes the student is necessary, except when it is an emergency. Due to legal dispositions, the Health Zone is not allowed to give out any kind of medicine to staff members or any adults on campus.

Any student who asks to be sent home for medical reasons must be sent to the Health Zone. It will be the Health Zone staff’s decision if the student can or cannot remain in school, and if the student must be sent home, the Health Zone staff will contact the parents and authorize the student’s exit.

All accidents must be reported to the Health Zone. When the seriousness of the accident requires it, the student must be accompanied by an adult to the Health Zone. The Health Zone staff may also be called to assist a student or a staff member at the place of the accident, in this case, the student or staff member must not be moved nor touched until the Health Zone staff arrives, evaluates the condition, and decides on the necessary course of action. If it is necessary to call an ambulance, the Health Zone staff will request it.
