Dear CNG Community,
As a result of increased research on the negative impact of mobile devices and social media on student social-emotional health and well-being, the entire group of 27 UNCOLI schools, including CNG, issued a joint statement to highlight the importance of restricting the use of these devices during the school day. I invite you to read this unified statement by member schools, or our CNG translation in English. We hope that you will join us in this key effort to provide our students with a central focus on learning during the school day without the distractions of cellphone and social media influences.
Our school has long understood the balancing act between parents making decisions on when to provide their own children with mobile devices and our institution’s focus on maximizing classroom learning and on-campus social interaction free from cellphone distractions. Our current school policies demonstrate a developmentally appropriate level of restrictions with a progressive shift in responsibility during the course of MS and HS for our secondary students and their parents. Our currently in place building-level policies on the use of mobile devices are as follows: 1. Primary and Elementary Schools: Restricted during the regular school day and on school buses. 2. Middle School: Restricted during the entire instructional day from 8:15 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. 3. High School: Restricted during normal class times. Our established mobile device restrictions have been centered around maximizing the teaching and learning process at CNG as well as providing developmentally appropriate protections to ensure student well-being. We clearly realize that the effectiveness of these measures will require a strong partnership in which our CNG staff upholds these policies, our students understand and abide by these restrictions, and our parent community continues to support these actions taken in the best interests and joint care of our children.
Sincerely,
Dr. Eric H. Habegger CNG Director Coffee with the Principal's Link Thank you so much to the parents who attended the past Coffee with the Principal session on Navigating Childhood: Partnering for Success in Primary School. It was a wonderful opportunity to come together as a community and discuss the best ways to support our children's growth. If you were unable to attend, we highly recommend watching it! Hello PS Families!
Congratulations to all of you who tried out different ways to practice and reinforce cooperation throughout this month, whether it was with the family challenge, read alouds, or other ways you might have as a family to celebrate this important value. This month, we didn’t receive pictures of families showing honesty. This is totally voluntary. However, we would love to make this a community wide celebration. Therefore, we encourage you to send pictures for the upcoming value. To celebrate we are sharing some brain boosters (sing-a longs, breathing activities) that resonate with Cooperation. In the meantime, we will brainstorm different ways we can celebrate at the end of each four week cycle.
Sincerely,
Li, Lau, Juli and Vero
